Sooke Saddle Club will be hosting a dressage show and tell and test (accredited judge in attendance) venue to be announced (during horse week). The format is as last year, you ride a dressage test in the allotted time period. You are scored, then the judge critiques you in person verbally. Suggestions are provided for improvement and you ride the same test again to see if you have taken the suggestions to "heart" and improve. The tests are all ridden in a 20X60. The link to the various tests will be provided at a later date. With all the events occurring after this date and other dressage events (such as the BC Summer Games) this is a great opportunity to find out why that elusive 8 or 9 is evading your reach and what the scores really mean on your tests and how to improve them. Sooke Saddle Club will host a Level 1 Sensory course – clinic (1 day) at the Metchosin Ring. Finally, a clinic for the spooky horse. Owning a horse can give you a wonderful warm fuzzy feeling inside, until that feeling turns to panic as your so called four-legged friend runs off down the trail because something as small as a bird landed on a branch above him. Would you like to help your horse face its fears, while building a stronger bond with you? This clinic involves a three hour period at the Metchosin ring introducing your horse to different obstacles and challenges. All obstacles and challenges can be done mounted or in hand (if horse is not broke). Registration must be received by June 13, 2008. Participants under the age of 16 years must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Each participant will receive a pre-clinic package of minor exercises that must be completed to participate in the clinic. Cost $50.00/horse and rider. SAVVY KIDS CAMP
Every year, these camps are a huge successes. What more could a horse-loving kid want? The price is $325, and that includes meals. We will announce more details about these annual fun-times as we get closer to these dates. (NOTE: two camps - see below - take your pick!)
These are similar to last year's events, with camping overnight, all meals and snacks included. Daily instructions of natural horsemanship Twincreeks style.
The focus is on safety and ground work. The riding includes a focus on bareback to develop an independent seat.
Most of our time is spent out with the horses, but on the hot afternoons we’ve been known to go to the river to cool off. We spend time watching herd dynamics and learning the psychology of the horse. We often have special speakers join us, with one project to take home ...but the specifics have yet to unfold. e-mail:
